SC2tog (using invisible decrease method): Insert hook into front loop of the first stitch. Insert hook into front loop of second stitch. Yarn over. Draw through the first two loops on hook. Yarn over. Draw through both loops on hook.
Notes
- Checking your gauge is not required for this pattern. Use a hook that is smaller than the size recommended for your yarn weight. This will ensure that your stuffing will not show through the stitches.
- This pattern requires minimal sewing. The legs, body, and head are worked as one piece, and the arms are worked directly into the body as you work, rather than sewing later. The only sewing required is the snout and the ears.
- All pieces are worked in the round. Use a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of each round.
- Invisible decreases are recommended. Please see “Special Stitches”.
- Safety eyes and noses pose a choking risk for babies; therefore, if making this toy for a baby, I recommend using yarn, felt, or embroidered details.
- All pieces, with the exception of the ears, require stuffing. Stuff each piece as you work to ensure the piece is completely filled. Do not add stuffing to the ears.
- See tutorial photos.

Tips & Tricks for Success
- Use Stitch Markers: Since this pattern is worked in continuous spiral rounds, always place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round to avoid losing your count.
- Pin Pieces Before Sewing: When attaching the ears, arms, and snout, use pins to lock them into position first. This ensures symmetrical placement before you commit to stitching them down.
- Master the Invisible Decrease: To prevent gaps where stuffing might show through, use the invisible decrease technique on all shaping rounds.
- Pro Amigurumi Trips: For even more techniques to elevate your plushies, check out my comprehensive guide on amigurumi tips and tricks.
Customization & Pattern Alterations
- Upsize to Chunky Yarn: Want an extra-soft oversized zombie plushie? Swap the worsted weight yarn for a chenille yarn like Parfait Chunky and a comparable hook size, like a 5.0mm (H) crochet hook.
- Experiment with Colorways: Don’t feel limited to classic green! Try muted purples, pale blues, or dull greys for a unique undead look, or stitch the body in bright contrast colors to give your zombie bear a worn down patch work vibe.
- Add Personal Details: Play with scar placement! Embroider extra stitches along the back of the head or use dark charcoal yarn to create a textured, torn patch effect on the legs or body.
I had so much fun designing this free zombie crochet pattern, that I had to make another one in this bright pink color!
