Cobweb the Cat – Free Halloween Crochet Pattern

When I think of Halloween, black cats definitely come to mind. This black cat crochet pattern includes a cute witch hat and broom. The legs, tail, and arms of this Halloween black cat crochet pattern are all attached by crocheting them to the body, and the body and head are worked as one piece.

I would classify this black cat crochet pattern as “advanced beginner”. It would be helpful to have had some experience with amigurumi before creating this project.

Stitch Abbreviations

st = stitch
sl st = slip stitch
ch = chain
SC = single crochet
SC2tog = single crochet 2 stitches together (invisible decrease is recommended)

Special Stitches

SC2tog (using invisible decrease method): Insert hook into front loop of the first stitch. Insert hook into front loop of second stitch. Yarn over. Draw through the first two loops on hook. Yarn over. Draw through both loops on hook.

Notes

  • Checking your gauge is not required for this pattern. Use a hook that is smaller than the size recommended for your yarn weight. This will ensure that your stuffing will not show through the stitches.
  • This pattern requires minimal sewing. The body and head are worked as one piece, and the legs, tail, and arms are worked directly into the body as you work, rather than sewing later. The only sewing required is the snout and the ears.
  • All pieces are worked in the round. Use a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of each round.
  • Invisible decreases are recommended. Please see “Special Stitches”.
  • Safety eyes and noses pose a choking risk for babies; therefore, if making this toy for a baby, I recommend using yarn, felt, or embroidered details.
  • All pieces, with the exception of the ears and tail, require full stuffing. Stuff as you work to ensure each piece is completely filled.

Attach ears to each side of the top of the head, between R29-34. Sew the ears with a slight bend in the middle so that the outer ends of the ears are curved inward.

Using pink yarn, embroider a nose on the snout with a V and a line coming down from the bottom.

Using gray yarn, embroider two whiskers on the head, on each side of the snout, along R24 up to R25, and R24, 2 sts wide.

Attach the hat to the top of the head, off centered to sit slightly over one ear.
