This free crochet ghost pattern is a fast, fun, and beginner-friendly Halloween project! I originally designed this mini ghost as part of a hanging crochet car charm, but it is incredibly versatile. Depending on the yarn you choose, you can use this pattern to make spooky keychains, Halloween garland, or swap to plush chenille yarn for a squishy plush ghost amigurumi toy!

With simple stitches, sweet embroidered blush details, and a full step-by-step video tutorial, this quick scrap-buster comes together in under an hour.

Small, medium, and large white crochet ghost amigurumi made with worsted weight and plush chenille yarn.

Stitch Abbreviations

st = stitch
sl st = slip stitch
ch = chain
SC = single crochet
DC = double crochet
SC2tog = single crochet 2 stitches together (invisible decrease is recommended)

Special Stitches

SC2tog (using invisible decrease method): Insert hook into front loop of the first stitch. Insert hook into front loop of second stitch. Yarn over. Draw through the first two loops on hook. Yarn over. Draw through both loops on hook.

Notes

  • Checking your gauge is not required for this pattern. Use a hook that is smaller than the size recommended for your yarn weight. This will ensure that your stuffing will not show through the stitches.
  • All pieces are worked in the round. Use a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of each round.
  • Invisible decreases are recommended. Please see “Special Stitches”.
  • Safety eyes and noses pose a choking risk for babies; therefore, if making this toy for a baby, I recommend using yarn, felt, or embroidered details.
  • All pieces require full stuffing. Stuff as you work to ensure each piece is completely filled.
  • See tutorial photos.

Tips for Success on your Mini Ghost Crochet Pattern

  • Track Your Rounds: Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of every continuous round so you never lose count.
  • Invisible Decreases: Use the invisible decrease (SC2tog) method to keep stitches tight and prevent stuffing from showing through.

Ghost Pattern Alterations & Modifications

  1. I have made four tiny ghosts today following this pattern for my daughters it’s really easy to follow and my girls love them

  2. when i do round 11 there is 24 then when i follow round 12 i come up with 36 not 32. what am i doing wrong?

    1. Hello! It sounds like you aren’t might be doing extra stitches. You will do the SC, 2 DC, SC, sequence a total of 8 times. Be sure that you aren’t missing the SC at the beginning or end of the round. It will look like this: (SC, 2 DC, SC), (SC, 2 DC, SC), (SC, 2 DC, SC), and so on. Hope that helps!

  3. Hi! I have made about 10 of the little ghosts and I can’t get the count of 30 on round 12. I keep coming up with 32. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. They still come out really cute, but my OCD brain will not let it go.

    Please help!

    1. Hello! I’m so sorry, that was a typo that I thought I fixed already but it must not have saved properly. The correct count is 32, so you aren’t doing anything wrong! 🙂

  4. Made this as a zipper-pull with glow-in-the-dark wool for my grandaughter, she is going to be delighted to go trick-or-treating with this adorable ghost!! Thank you for the easy to follow instructions!
