Meet the Hug Me Monkey Lovey, the latest addition to my lovey pattern collection! This free monkey lovey crochet pattern combines a classic double crochet blanket with a sweet amigurumi monkey, making it a perfect handmade baby gift.
As a designer, I know that assembling amigurumi can be the most intimidating part for beginners, which is why I include detailed photo tutorials to help you through the entire process. This project is beginner-friendly and works up quickly so you can be ready for your next baby shower.

Special Stitches
SC2tog (using invisible decrease method): Insert hook into front loop of the first stitch. Insert hook into front loop of second stitch. Yarn over. Draw through the first two loops on hook. Yarn over. Draw through both loops on hook.
Notes
- Checking your gauge is not required for this pattern. Use a hook that is smaller than the size recommended for your yarn weight. This will ensure that your stuffing will not show through the stitches.
- All pieces of monkey, with the exception of the hair, are worked in the round. Use a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of each round.
- Invisible decreases are recommended. Please see “Special Stitches”.
- Safety eyes and noses pose a choking risk for babies; therefore, if making this toy for a baby, I recommend using yarn, felt, or embroidered details.
- Head and arms require stuffing. Stuff each piece as you work to ensure the piece is completely filled.
- Chain 3 at the beginning of each blanket round does count as a stitch (unless otherwise specified).
- See tutorial photos.

Attach hair between R13-14 on the top of the head.

Using color A (brown), embroider 2 nostrils over R2-3 of the nose. At the top of the nostrils, leaving approximately 3 sts between each. At the bottom of the nostrils, leave approximately 1 stitch between each.

Using a strand of color B (light brown), attach the head to the middle of the blanket. Be sure to sew to the top loops of the blanket only to ensure a clean look on the underside of the blanket.

Attach arms where the head and blanket meet, on each side of the head. Have the arms angled towards the front.

Tips for a Perfect Monkey Lovey
- Facial Features: If you are making this monkey crochet security blanket pattern for a baby, be sure to use embroidered details instead of safety eyes using black yarn or embroidery floss.
- Prevent Stuffing Peek Through: If you noticed your fiberfill showing through your stitches on the monkey’s head, try going down a hook size for the amigurumi portion of the pattern to create a tighter fabric.

Customizing Your Monkey Crochet Security Blanket Pattern
- Make it a Matching Set: For the ultimate baby shower gift, pair this lovey with my matching free monkey amigurumi pattern. Gifting a full-sized plushie alongside it’s security blanket twin is such a thoughtful gift.
- Adjust the Blanket Size: If you prefer a larger snuggler size, continue the rounds of the blanket until you reach your desired size before attaching the head and arms.
- Stripes or Solids: While I used a striped pattern on the crochet security blanket pattern, a solid-colored blanket would be a great option as well.
