Hug Me Unicorn Lovey – Free Crochet Pattern
*** I hope you enjoy this free crochet pattern available here on my blog! An ad-free, formatted PDF version of this crochet pattern is also available for purchase here:
I’ve been hinting at adding a unicorn pattern to my collection for a while now, and when WeCrochet introduced one of their newest yarn lines, Brava Speckle, the colorway called “Cake Pop Speckle” was just begging to become one!
Loveys are one of my most favorite projects to make. I love crocheted blankets, but they take me forever to finish because I often get bored with them. Loveys are a way for me to dip my foot in the water, without needing to dive in head first. They are often my go to baby shower gift, and after recently adding a dinosaur to my Hug Me lovey collection, I knew a unicorn had to be next!
This pattern has limitless color options, and could easily fit in to any nursery. I think using varying shades of one color to create a gradient, or even using a color changing yarn for the rainbow stripes would look so fun!
Don’t forget to save this pattern in your favorites and add it to your project queue to save it for later! View this pattern on Ravelry here.

I would classify this pattern as “advanced beginner”. It would be helpful to have had some experience with amigurumi before creating this project.

I’d love to see what you make with this tutorial! Don’t forget to share a photo of your finished work in your Ravelry projects and my Facebook group!

NOTES
- Checking your gauge is not required for this pattern. Use a hook that is smaller than the size recommended for your yarn weight. This will ensure that your stuffing will not show through the stitches.
- Head, ears, horn, and arms are worked in the round. Use a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of each round.
- Head and arms require stuffing. Stuff each piece as you work to ensure piece is completely filled.
- Blanket: chain 3 at the beginning of each round of does count as a stitch (unless otherwise specified).
- See tutorial photos.

ASSEMBLY
See tutorial photos.
Attach horn over R13-14, on the top middle of head.

Attach each ear over R14-15, on either side of horn, leaving 3 sts between the horn and each ear. Ears will be in line with the eyes.

Attach curls behind horn and ears as desired. I use pins to hold each curl in place where I want to attach.

Attach R12-14 of bottom of head to middle of the blanket. Be sure to sew to top loops of blanket only to ensure a clean look on the underside of blanket.

Attach arms to blanket, directly against head.

*Note: Safety eyes and noses pose a choking risk for babies; therefore, if making this toy for a baby, I recommend using yarn, felt, or embroidered details.
