Special Stitches

SC2tog (using invisible decrease method): Insert hook into front loop of the first stitch. Insert hook into front loop of second stitch. Yarn over. Draw through the first two loops on hook. Yarn over. Draw through both loops on hook.

PUFF = [Yarn over, insert hook into designated st and draw up a loop] 3 times (7 loops on hook), yarn over, draw through all loops on hook, ch 1.

Notes

  • Checking your gauge is not required for this pattern. For the animal pieces, use a hook that is smaller than the size recommended for your yarn weight. This will ensure that your stuffing will not show through the stitches.
  • All pieces, with the exception of the ears, are worked in the round. Use a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of each round.
  • Invisible decreases are recommended. Please see “Special Stitches”.
  • Safety eyes and noses pose a choking risk for babies; therefore, if making this toy for a baby, I recommend using yarn, felt, or embroidered details.
  • Head and arms require stuffing. Stuff each piece as you work to ensure the piece is completely filled.
  • All tutorial photos referenced in this document are available at the end of this pattern, or in sequential order in the full-color, formatted PDF that was included with your purchase.

Assembling & Finishing

See tutorial photos.

Using color A (shown as pink), embroider lines for the nostrils on the snout, over about 2-3 sts tall, between R1-2 of the head.

nostril placement for pig lovey crochet pattern

Attach ears to the top of the head, with about 5 sts between each, at R13-14, with the ends turned forward to R12, creating the curved appearance. Fold the tip of each ear downwards; the top edges should curve inwards.

Attach head to R1 of the blanket, with the snout facing the same direction as a corner. Be sure to sew through only the top stitches of the blanket in order to keep the underside’s clean appearance.

Attach arms to each side of the head by sewing to the bottom of the head/where the blanket meets the head.

Tips & Tricks

  • Use pins to hold the pieces to your pig lovey in place while you sew. This keeps the pieces from moving around to ensure proper placement.

Alterations

  • If you would like to use a yarn other than worsted weight yarn for this pig lovey crochet pattern, simply adjust your hook size accordingly. There is no need to make any further adjustments to the pattern itself.
  • If you would like to make the blanket of your pig lovey crochet pattern larger, just add on additional rows to the blanket, before finishing off with the row of SC (R12 of the pattern).
