Embroider with Safety Eyes
Safety eyes are a great choice for making amigurumi. They are generally pretty easy to attach and they hold up really well over time. There are so many different safety eye options to choose from including plain black safety eyes, or colored safety eyes with glitter or a design in them.
I always tend to lean towards plain black eyes, since they are easier to keep on hand without needing to refill specific colors. As nice as they are by themselves, I like to add a few extra details to dress them up a bit.
In the below videos, I’ll show you how I use embroidery in addition to my safety eyes.
How to Embroider a White Edge to Safety Eyes
In this video I will demonstrate how to embroider around a black safety eye to create the appearance of the whites of the eye.
How to Embroider Eyelids on Amigurumi
In this video I will show you how to sew eyelids around the safety eyes on your amigurumi.
How to Embroider Eyelashes for Safety Eyes
In this video you will learn how to embroider eyelashes to pair with your safety eyes.
Sometimes safety eyes won’t work for your crochet project, whether you don’t have the right size on hand, you want a different look, or if the project is for a baby or toddler.
In this next video, I will show you how to sew eyes on amigurumi. These eyes are more detailed and works well with both the white outline to the eye, and without.
How to Embroider a Simple Smile
A simple smile can add so much personality to your amigurumi. You can use this same technique to make smiles of all sizes, by just increase the stitches and rows that you embroider over. This smile resembles a “V” shape.
How to Embroider a Wide Smile
In this video I will show you how to sew a mouth on amigurumi. This is my favorite smile to embroider, which creates more of a stretched out “U” shape. This works well on really chubby and rounded amigurumi projects.
