SC2tog (using invisible decrease method): Insert hook into front loop of the first stitch. Insert hook into front loop of second stitch. Yarn over. Draw through the first two loops on hook. Yarn over. Draw through both loops on hook.
Notes
- Checking your gauge is not required for this pattern. Use a hook that is smaller than the size recommended for your yarn weight. This will ensure that your stuffing will not show through the stitches.
- All pieces are worked in the round. Use a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of each round.
- Invisible decreases are recommended. Please see “Special Stitches”.
- Safety eyes and noses pose a choking risk for babies; therefore, if making this toy for a baby, I recommend using yarn, felt, or embroidered details.
- Head, body, and arm pieces require stuffing. Stuff each piece as you work to ensure the piece is completely filled.
- See tutorial photos.

Tips & Tricks for a Perfect Mouse Amigurumi
- Track Your Rounds: Since Mavis the Mouse amigurumi is worked in a continuous spiral, I highly recommend using a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of every round so you never lose your place.
- Precision Placement: Before sewing, use straight pins to fit your pieces on the crochet mouse. This allows you to check the symmetry before permanently attaching them.
- Master the Basics: If you are new to making amigurumi, or just looking for some ways to imrove, check out my comprehensive guide on amigurumi tips and tricks.
Customize your Crochet Mouse
- Go Big with Plush Yarn: For a larger, huggable version of Mavis the Mouse, try using a plush chenille yarn like Parfait Chunky. Be sure to adjust your hook size accordingly. If you’re not sure on the size hook you should use, check out my guide on choosing the best hook for amigurumi.
- Play with Color Palettes: This cute mouse amigurumi pattern looks adorable in plenty of different colors. Experiment with your favorites!
- The No-Sweater Version: If you prefer a classic, solid-colored mouse, simply work the entire body and arms in your main color and skip the hood instructions. This results in a simple crochet mouse that is even faster to finish.
