After designing my wolf crochet pattern, I thought that with a few color changes, it would make an excellent fox amigurumi! Check out the free fox crochet pattern below!

Here you will find all of the information needed to alter the original Walter the Wolf crochet pattern into Fiona the Fox amigurumi.

This pattern is a free crochet pattern modification to my Walter the Wolf pattern. You can find the original crochet pattern here on my blog for free! An ad-free, formatted PDF version of the original pattern is also available for purchase here:

I would classify this free fox crochet pattern as “advanced beginner”. It would be helpful to have had some experience with amigurumi before creating this project.

Notes

  • Checking your gauge is not required for this pattern. Use a hook that is smaller than the size recommended for your yarn weight. This will ensure that your stuffing will not show through the stitches.
  • All pieces are worked in the round. Use a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of each round.
  • Invisible decreases are recommended. Please see “Special Stitches”.
  • Safety eyes and noses pose a choking risk for babies; therefore, if making this toy for a baby, I recommend using yarn, felt, or embroidered details.
  • All pieces, except the ears, require stuffing. Stuff each piece as you work it to ensure each piece is completely filled.
  • See tutorial photos.

Pattern

For the free fox crochet pattern to look like the one pictured:

  • Substitute color A (gray) for orange.
  • Substitute color C (black) for gray.

Another great option for transforming the wolf into a fox would be:

  • Substitute color A (gray) for orange.
  • Substitute color B (white) for cream.
  • Substitute color C (black) for brown.

Tips & Tricks

Alterations

  • Parfait Chunky or another size 6 yarn, along with a hook that fits your desired yarn, will create a larger amigurumi fox. I use a 5.0mm (H) crochet hook with Parfait Chunky.
  • Use this free fox crochet pattern with pink yarn instead of orange for a fun and bright fox amigurumi.
