Triceratops Crochet Patterns

Let’s start with the most popular of my crochet dinosaur patterns, the Triceratops! This is a favorite among my designs, and I’ve created several various for you to enjoy. Here you’ll find four different Triceratops crochet patterns to choose from:

Tanner the Triceratops

Tanner the Triceratops is by far my most popular free dinosaur crochet pattern! This design works up beautifully in a variety of yarns and is especially popular for creating custom, themed versions. My favorites have been the Strawberry Triceratops, Blueberry Triceratops, and Sunflower Triceratops.

Mini Tanner the Triceratops

Mini Tanner the Triceratops is a smaller, adorable replica of the popular Tanner pattern, making it one of my personal favorites! This little triceratops crochet pattern is a fantastic quick project and includes a full video tutorial. I love making this pattern in soft, plush yarns like Parfait Chunky, which creates a wonderful, cuddly plushie size in much less time than the full-size Tanner.

Two finished amigurumi Mini Tanner the Triceratops crochet patterns. One is a larger, plush teal and gray triceratops, and the other is a smaller, worsted weight fuchsia and gray triceratops, both sitting on a white fluffy background.

Hug Me Triceratops Lovey

If you’re looking for the perfect baby shower gift, look no further than this adorable Triceratops lovey! This free lovey pattern is designed to be a soft and cuddly comfort blanket. It pairs beautifully with the amigurumi Triceratops above to make a great matching set for new babies and their older siblings, too!

Triceratops Ornament

This adorable crochet Triceratops ornament is so versatile! I use mine as a car hanger, but you can easily turn this small amigurumi dinosaur pattern into garlands, keychains, or even a cute Christmas decoration. The possibilities are truly endless!

Tarbosaurus Crochet Patterns (T-Rex Alternative)

These next free dinosaur crochet patterns are for the Tarbosaurus, which is the perfect substitute if you are looking to crochet a Tyrannosaurus Rex (T-Rex) or an Allosaurus! These cute Tarbosaurus crochet patterns are nothing to fear and are easy to stitch up.

Toby the Tarbosaurus

Meet Toby the Tarbosaurus, one of the largest and most impressive dinos in my free dinosaur crochet pattern collection, making him a perfect T-Rex alternative! Toby features cool spikes along his back and has subtle embroidery around his eyes to give this mighty dinosaur a softer, friendlier look.

Mini Toby the Tarbosaurus

This small Tarbosaurus crochet pattern is a perfect mini replica of the larger Toby the Tarbosaurus, and it includes a full video tutorial! This small T-Rex alternative dinosaur is another one that I enjoy making in plush yarns to create a wonderful, squishy result in less time.

Stygimoloch Crochet Patterns

The Stygimoloch is one of my son’s favorite dinosaurs, so I had to design one! You may remember the famous “Stiggy” from the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom movie. She’s the unforgettable dinosaur who headbutts the door open. The Stygimoloch is very similar to the Pachycephalosaurus; however, the Pachy was a bit larger. If you’re looking for a fun free dinosaur crochet pattern, this is the one!

Stevie the Stygimoloch

This Stevie the Stygimoloch crochet pattern is one of my more detailed free dinosaur crochet patterns, capturing all the best parts of “Stiggy”! It features the distinctive dome piece on her head, as well as the crown of horns. This design results in a stunning amigurumi dinosaur that makes a great showpiece.

Mini Stevie the Stygimoloch

The mini version of this Stygimoloch crochet pattern is such a fun design, and just like the other mini dinosaurs, it works great in plush yarns! I especially love to make this small amigurumi dinosaur pattern in Parfait Chunky yarn for a wonderfully cuddly and quick-to-make result.

Apatosaurus Crochet Patterns (Long-Neck Dinosaurs)

The Apatosaurus is one of the most beloved long-neck dinosaurs, similar to the Diplodocus, Brontosaurus, or Brachiosaurus. These iconic amigurumi dinosaur patterns are immediately recognizable, and you can even spot them in the Jurassic World movies! If you’re looking for a large, gentle giant for your collection, this is the perfect section of free dinosaur crochet patterns for you.

Andy the Apatosaurus

Meet Andy the Apatosaurus! This Apatosaurus free crochet pattern is the largest of all my amigurumi dinosaurs so far; perfect for creating a truly impressive plushie. I love his cute embroidered eyebrows and the detailed stripes down his back, arms, and legs!

Mini Andy the Apatosaurus

Another mini crochet dinosaur pattern to add to the list is the smaller version of Andy the Apatosaurus! Mini Andy is such a sweet little long-neck dinosaur and is another pattern that works up great in plush yarns, resulting in a large, cuddly plushie in less time.

Parasaurolophus Crochet Patterns

Now for my personal favorite: the Parasaurolophus! This distinctive dinosaur, famous for its large cranial crest, is another you see prominently throughout the Jurassic movies. If you grew up with The Land Before Time, you might remember “Ducky” (a Saurolophus), which is essentially a smaller version of the Parasaurolophus. These free dinosaur crochet patterns are a must-make for any fan of crested dinos!

Parker the Parasaurolophus

Parker the Parasaurolophus is such a fun and distinctive crested dinosaur crochet pattern! I absolutely love the unique shaping of the crest on the top of his head. It’s a simple addition that truly makes this amigurumi dinosaur pattern stand out from the crowd.

A finished amigurumi Parker the Parasaurolophus, a free dinosaur crochet pattern in fuchsia and peach yarn with a distinctive head crest, sitting on a fluffy white background.

Mini Parker the Parasaurolophus

This mini Parasaurolophus crochet pattern is such a cute little crested dinosaur! Just like the other small dinosaurs, this pattern works up fantastically in plush yarns like Parfait Chunky and Bernat Velvet, creating an extra soft and cuddly amigurumi dinosaur in less time.

Pterosaur Crochet Patterns (Flying Reptiles)

Did you know that the term Pterosaur describes several iconic “flying dinosaurs“, such as the Pterodactyl, Pteranodon, Quetzalcoatlus, Dimorphodon, and more? While Pterosaurs weren’t technically dinosaurs (they are classified as reptiles), they lived in the same geologic periods and went extinct right alongside the dinosaurs. These free flying dinosaur crochet patterns are a fantastic, unique addition to any amigurumi collection!

Tori the Pterosaur

I really enjoyed designing this free Pterosaur crochet pattern! Tori the Pterosaur is such a unique and adorable “flying dinosaur”. I especially love the distinct crest on the back of her head and her teeny-tiny tail, which adds so much character to this amigurumi dinosaur!

A finished amigurumi Tori the Pterosaur, a free flying dinosaur crochet pattern in dark purple and light pink yarn, with a distinct head crest and wings, sitting on a fluffy white background.

Mini Tori the Pterosaur

This smaller version of Tori the Pterosaur is such a fun and quick mini flying dinosaur crochet pattern to make! Mini Tori works up beautifully in a variety of yarns, making it a wonderful, customizable project.

Ankylosaurus Crochet Patterns

Did you know the Ankylosaurus means “fused lizard”? This heavily armored dinosaur is one of the most unique! If you’ve seen Camp Cretacious, you may be familiar with the adorable dinosaur, Bumpy, who was an Ankylosaurus! These free dinosaur crochet patterns are a fun challenge and make for a wonderfully textured amigurumi plush.

Archie the Ankylosaurus

I really love how this Archie the Ankylosaurus crochet pattern turned out, especially the cute clubbed tail! This armored dinosaur design is a great project for adding texture to your amigurumi collection.

The smaller version of Archie, this Mini Ankylosaurus crochet pattern is such a fun and quick project! This armored dinosaur design works up beautifully in a variety of yarns, making him a great companion plushie to the full-sized pattern, or a quick gift.

Themed Dinosaur Crochet Patterns

My free dinosaur crochet patterns are perfect canvases for creativity, and over the years, there have been a lot of fun modifications designed for holidays and themed collections! Here are a few popular amigurumi dinosaur modifications that you can find detailed, free instructions for on my blog.

Strawberry Triceratops

This free pattern modification to create a strawberry Triceratops is definitely a fan favorite! By making a few simple color changes and substituting the strawberry pattern for the horns, the beloved Tanner the Triceratops and Mini Tanner the Triceratops transforms into a fun and fruity amigurumi dinosaur!

Strawberry Lemonade Stygimoloch

The strawberry lemonade modification of Mini Stevie is one of the my very favorite themed amigurumi dinosaurs! For this pattern modification, I used Parfait Chunky yarn, and he turned out to be nearly as big as the full-size Stygimoloch pattern; a great way to get a huge plush fast! This free amigurumi dinosaur crochet pattern modification is a must-try.

Candy Corn Dinosaurs

Who doesn’t want a Halloween dinosaur?! These fun candy corn dinosaurs are made using a simple color modification to my existing patterns, making them the perfect Halloween crochet project! These modification instructions are designed for Mini Stevie the Stygimoloch, Mini Tanner the Triceratops, and Mini Toby the Tarbosaurus.

What You Need to Crochet These Dinosaurs

Ready to start crocheting your own herd of amigurumi dinosaurs? You don’t need a lot of specialized equipment. Here is a quick list of the essential materials and tools required for all the free dinosaur crochet patterns in this collection:

  • Yarn: All of these free dinosaur crochet patterns are written for worsted weight (size 4) yarn, which I recommended for the best detail. However, all patterns can be made with any size yarn that you prefer! I especially love to make the mini patterns with plush yarns like Parfait Chunky or Bernat Velvet for an extra soft, oversized result!
  • Hook: You will need a 4.0mm (G) crochet hook for the full-size and mini patterns when using worsted weight yarn. If you choose a different yarn weight (like a plush yarn), you will need to adjust your hook size. Check out my full guide on choosing the best hook size for your amigurumi projects based on your yarn choice for more details!
  • Safety Eyes: I use 12mm black safety eyes for the full-size patterns and 9mm black safety eyes for the mini patterns. Always check that the backings are secure, especially if giving the plushie to a small child.
  • Stuffing: Use a high-quality polyester fiberfill to ensure the dinosaurs hold their shape.
  • Other Essentials: You will also need a tapestry needle (for assembling and weaving ends) and a stitch marker.

What kind of yarn is best for crochet dinosaurs?

The best yarn depends on the final look you want! All of these free dinosaur crochet patterns are written for worsted weight (size 4) yarn, which provides excellent stitch definition. However, if you want a quicker, softer result, I highly recommend using plush yarn. This creates a larger, wonderfully soft plushie.

Are these amigurumi dinosaur patterns suitable for beginners?

Yes! These patterns are designed to be beginner-friendly. They use standard amigurumi techniques and primarily use single crochet stitches. If you are a confident beginner and understand basic terms like the magic ring, single crochet increase, and invisible decrease, you will be able to successfully complete any of the patterns in this collection.

How long does it take to crochet an amigurumi dinosaur?

The time needed varies for every crocheter, the pattern size, and the yarn choice. The full-size patterns typically take 6-10 hours depending on your speed. The mini dinosaur patterns are much faster, often taking 2-4 hours, which is why they are perfect for making quick gifts or using plush yarn to bulk them up quickly.

Where can I get the ad-free PDF version of these patterns?

Every single pattern in this collection is available for free right here on my blog! If you prefer a beautifully formatted, printer-friendly version for your convenience, you can purchase the ad-free PFD for all of the amigurumi dinosaur patterns on Etsy and Ravelry.
