In case you haven’t noticed, I make a lot of items for babies and kids. That’s just the stage of my life right now; I have young kids, and a lot of my friends, family, and coworkers do too! I’m not complaining though, that just gives me more of an opportunity to make all the cute little things!

This elephant lovey pattern is a go-to of mine for my expecting momma friends. It works up pretty quickly, and has such a cute result!

SC2tog (using invisible decrease method): Insert hook into front loop of the first stitch. Insert hook into front loop of second stitch. Yarn over. Draw through the first two loops on hook. Yarn over. Draw through both loops on hook.

NOTES

  • Checking your gauge is not required for this pattern. Use a hook that is smaller than the size recommended for your yarn weight. This will ensure that your stuffing will not show through the stitches.
  • All pieces (except blanket) are worked in the round. Use a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of each round.
  • Trunk/head and arms require stuffing. Stuff each piece as you work it to ensure each piece is completely filled.
  • Blanket: chain 2 at the beginning of each round does NOT count as a stitch (unless otherwise specified).

ASSEMBLY

Attach ears to each side of head, between R21-22.

For a girl elephant, attach bow in front of one ear.

Attach head to middle of the blanket. Be sure to sew to top loops of blanket only to ensure a clean look on the underside of blanket.

Attach arms to head, very close to blanket.

Embroider 2 nails on each arm by weaving yarn around R2-4 of each arm.

*Note: Safety eyes and noses pose a choking risk for babies; therefore, if making this toy for a baby, I recommend using yarn, felt, or embroidered details.

  1. Hello! I was wondering if I could still sell the completed product if I only used the blanket part of your pattern? I wanted to use a yarn I found that already comes with the lovey’s head, so I just need a pattern for the blanket. I would give you full credit for the pattern. Thank you in advance for your time!

    1. Of course! I encourage other crocheter’s to sell their finished items using my patterns. 🙂

  2. I know this obviously has been out for awhile but I recently found it and I love it! Just the right level of difficulty for me, I’m pretty much self taught and only been crocheting for about 3 years off and on. Thank you so much. Made it for my granddaughters 1st birthday

  3. Help! I am somewhat of a beginner, but I love this so much! I have done all of the parts for the elephant but I am having a hard time understanding the pattern for the blanket. Is there any way you can make a video of the blanket? I will be so sad if I can’t finish this. 😢 Even if you can just email a simple video to me. Help!

    1. Hi Lori! I’m glad you love the pattern! I don’t have a video that I’ve made for this pattern, but I did find one to share with you. The video is for an actual blanket, so or course you will just do the same number of rows as indicated in my pattern. 😊
