Notes

  • Checking your gauge is not required for this pattern. Use a hook that is smaller than the size recommended for your yarn weight. This will ensure that your stuffing will not show through the stitches.
  • All pieces of bear are worked in the round. Use a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of each round.
  • Head and arms require stuffing. Stuff each piece as you work it to ensure each piece is completely filled.
  • Blanket Notes – Ch 3 at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch (unless otherwise specified).

Attach ears to each side of the top of the head, between R4 and R7.

Embroider a nose on R3, over 3 sts on the snout. Attach snout to the front of the head.

Attach head to middle of the blanket. Be sure to sew to top loops of blanket only, to ensure a clean look on the underside of blanket.

Attach arms to head, very close to blanket.

*Note: Safety eyes and noses pose a choking risk for babies; therefore, if making this toy for a baby, I recommend using yarn, felt, or embroidered details.

Tips & Tricks

  • When choosing yarn for a project like this, be sure to use a yarn that can withstand frequent washing. This is why I often lean towards acrylic yarns when I’m making amigurumi toys and loveys.
  • Use pins to hold the pieces of your crochet bear lovey pattern in place. This will keep them from moving around to ensure proper placement.

Alterations

  • If you would like the blanket portion of this teddy bear lovey crochet pattern free to be larger, simply add on the additional rows, as desired, and finish off the blanket with a row of single crochet stitches (as noted in R12).
  • If you would like to use a different yarn weight for this pattern, be sure to adjust your hook size accordingly so that there are no holes or stuffing showing through on your amigurumi pieces. No further adjustments are needed to the pattern itself.
