Creating a Ribbed Band – Crochet Tutorial
A ribbed band is quite popular when starting your work, such as in bottom-up hats, but you don’t often see a ribbed band at the end of your work. With the release of my Brody Baby Bottoms pattern, I wanted to create a photo tutorial to better demonstrate this technique. In this pattern, this method is used for the cuffs at the bottom of each pant leg.
The Brody Baby Bottoms are worked as one piece, so there is no sewing required!
I’d love to see what you make with this tutorial! Don’t forget to share a photo of your finished work in your Ravelry projects and my Facebook group!
Creating a Ribbed Band
st = stitch
sl st = slip stitch
ch = chain
SC = single crochet
- For the purpose of this tutorial, I will be referring to the Brody Baby Bottoms pattern in the 0-3 months size, and corresponding stitch counts.
When you have reached the end of your work, ch 7.
Next, you will work 1 SC in the second ch from your hook, and the remaining 5 sts. (6 sts)
Sl st to the first DC of R19 of the leg. Then, sl st to the next st of R19.
Turn your work. Working in the back loops only, you will work 1 SC up the ribbed band sts. (6 sts)
Ch 1. Turn your work. Working in the back loops only, work 1 SC down the ribbed band sts. (6 sts)
Sl st into each of the next 2 sts of R19 of the leg.
You will continue this ribbing around your work until you reach the beginning.
When you reach the beginning of your work, you will sl st your final row of ribbing to your first row of ribbing. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
